Built on an old horse stud and racecourse, the Sydney International Tennis Centre has been designed in consultation with former Australian tennis pro John Newcombe and the UK creators of Wimbledon's No. 1 court. It features a centrepiece 10,000-seat circular centre court with shade covering 70 per cent of seats, plus two show courts, seven match courts and six practice courts. All court surfaces are made of Rebound Ace cushioned acrylic, the same material used at Melbourne Park, home of the Australian Open. At Centre Court, lighting has been integrated into the specially designed lightweight roof, eliminating the need for obstructive pylons. At court level, natural ventilation will enhance comfort for both players and spectators.
