» PHD Live 2009

Reviewed by Dean Zone / Submitted 11-11-09 00:23

Label: PHD
Format: Digital
Genre: Hardstyle

PHD stands for "Pure Hard Dance", and is the name of an Aussie promotion and label, run by Soul-T who is on remix duties on this release.

The original mix is a quirky Hardstyle number that sits on the more fun end of the spectrum. With a driving kick and bass and some fun noises this is always going to be a more fun tune, and the breakdown cements this with a jumpy riff and a cool vocal. What PHD are doing is essentially the same as the Q-Dance events in having it’s very own anthem, and whilst these are usually quite dark this much more fun and uplifting.

The Soul-T remix starts off with much more sinister intentions, a serious bass and kick combo with minimal fuss and maximum energy is the order of the day here. The vocals have been added to slightly and the breakdown now has a bit more bite to it. It seems to sound a lot more old skool too which is no bad thing. They’re both very good efforts but the Soul-T remix edges it just for me.
