Ingo presents Skin Thieves » Oblivion / Nu Generation Reviewed by glen gavin / Submitted 01-12-03 23:25 Label: Vacuum recordings Format: 12" Vinyl Genre: Hard Trance He's at it again.... Hard dance's prodical son unleashes his next assault on Vacuum with a little help from up and coming youngsters Chris Hoff & Jamie Taylor AKA The Skin Thieves, in the form of Oblivion & Nu Generation. Oblivion begins with an obvious, tough kickdrum and some minimal perscussion and effects, before the female vocal is introduced for the first time proclaiming "I can save you from oblivion"! More effects and timely percussion are layered in slowly and an infectious vocal is looped in the initial build up, before the throbbing bassline synth bursts into action. Again the tune continues to gradually build with more neat effects being added leading to the first break. The bassline rythm is fairly simple but very clever and you just can't help nodding along as the tune chuggs along at a nice pace with plenty of effects to keep it interesting. Then the 'oblivion' vocal signals the start of the main breakdown. It begins with some low key dark stabs and quiet synth gargles before the vocal shines through and the stabs and synth pattern quicken and increase in volume before crashing into a crescendo of thumping hard trance which is tough enough to satisfy the majority of hard nuts among us, but still maintains an uplifting enough feel to fulfill the euphoric crew's needs. Overall a simple but stylish tune which will definitely rock most crowds when used at the right time. Nu Generation is definitely the more up beat of the two tracks. The pounding kickdrum is joined systematically by some wicked percussive effects and sinister undertones before the 'Nu Generation' vocal announces the introduction of the rocking bassline which accompanies a blinding, futuristic buzzing rythm which sound perfect together. In the main breakdown, the buzzing noise prevails alongside a mammoth screaching trance riff which, when joined by the bassline and the kickdrum, tears holes in the ceiling. Throughout the tune the use of effects and extras is exquisite and we're even treated to a splash of off-beat action which is blended very well and helps phrase the latter stages of the tune. This will undoubtedly sit happily in many hard dj's boxes for the foreseable future. for me it's yet another smash from Ingo and YET ANOTHER QUALITY RELEASE FROM VACUUM. can't wait to play this one out.
