Mysticism, Ramizes, Freetech, DJ Wired – these are all aliases of Ozzy Cetin – the man behind the legendary Crystal Kids parties! On 14th January 2022 Ozzy graces the decks as DJ Wired at the equally awesome party – Tribal Village – A Psychedelic Adventure – Winter Edition in London! We decided now was the perfect time to delve a little deeper into the mind of this dedicated psy-trance veteran!
How do you feel your childhood helped shape who you are today?
I grew up with Mom, she was a casino dealer so I had a very lively childhood with loads and loads of parties, which I feel had a direct impact on me being a music events organiser, DJ and producer today.
What is your earliest memory of music?
80s disco music at my Mom’s house parties
Talk us through your musical career, how did it start?
I grew up partying. In the uni, I started to collect electronic dance music archives which contained progressive house, progressive trance, minimal techno, Goa-trance, and full-on psy-trance. This led me to start DJing in 2004. After a few years, I started to organise indoor psy-trance events as well, and from there, it all took off!
Who/what are your biggest influences and inspirations?
I play all sub-genres of psy-trance divided by four DJ projects. Each project has different influences. To name a few who inspired ‘WIRED’, Sensient, Kliment, Electrypnoise, Hypegeo, Airi, Hefty, Ivort, Millivolt, Headweller.
What has been the highlight of your musical career so far?
I would say launching Crystal Kids in 2015 – it’s been a blast!
Was Crystal Kids the first event that you promoted?
Actually no. I organised a few events between 2004-2007, we didn’t give them names, it was when I was at uni – I just collaborated with a few friends on them. After uni I left Turkey to work on cruise ships between 2007-2011. After returning to Turkey in 2021, I once again started to get involved in lots of indoor and outdoor psytrance events.
What year did you start Crystal Kids and what made you want to start a party of your own?
After 3 years of experience working at many festivals and indoor events, I found myself surrounded by a very lovely bunch of young people who helped me realise it was time to start my own events. With the help of those crystal kids, I launched Crystal Kids in 2015. It was in Istanbul back then, whereas now it’s held in Manchester. I am organising my 38th event next year on 30th April 2022 at the Rebellion Club. The Psychedelic Journey series has been doing very well; and ended up being one of the best ‘proper’ psytrance events in the North UK. The fifth event of this series will be featuring Dickster, Loose Connection, Sense Datum live sets and loads of other really cool DJs. There will be two stages, one psytrance and one techno. Tickets are available on Skiddle
Were you nervous/apprehensive ahead of your first party or just excited?
It was pure excitement! As by then I had enough experience to really know what I was doing and I felt the scene was already kind of waiting for me to do it anyway.
What has been a lowlight of your musical career?
Moving to the UK in 2016 thinking it would help spice up my musical career. Instead this resulted in me not having enough gigs, whereas back in Turkey I was a headline act playing every weekend, sometimes even two gigs a week!
What other work do you do apart from music?
I am an actor, model, voice-over and stuntman
How do you think your friends would describe you?
As a ‘multitask-man’
What are your biggest loves other than music?
Science, especially space & time. I also enjoy video games and exercising
What are your biggest dislikes in life?
Politics, religion and economics
If someone wrote a book about your life, what would it be called?
‘The Rise of the Hope’
What are your hopes, dreams and plans for the future?
Transforming all my four DJ projects into live acts and travelling the world - playing at all the open air festivals, as well as winning an Oscar.
You’re playing at the legendary Tribal Village event on 14th January 2022! What does this mean to you and what can people expect from your set?
Tribal Village is one of the most established psy-trance and techno events of the UK, no doubts. It is a huge pleasure and honour to play over there. I am really excited. Friends should expect a cool, groovy and slightly darkish set from Wired which will be a mixture of dark progressive and psychedelic techno styles.
Do you ever suffer with stage fright? If so, how do you overcome it?
I will be honest…. I have performed at over 200 gigs, and I still suffer from stage fright each time! I try to stay calm, try not to drink too much before my set, take deep long breaths and press play. Luckily the fright goes away as soon as I start playing. The rest is all a blast!
Do you think artistry can be taught?
A very good question. I think everyone is born with artistic abilities although it might be hidden under some other skills for some. With the right type of education and a lot of time spent on it, I think everybody could master the ability of artistry.
Tell us about one of your most magical moments in life?
I think it was when Tristan finished his closing set at Ozora main stage, and everybody came straight to Pumpui while I was playing a dark progressive / psygressive DJ set under the alias ‘Ramizes’ in 2016. I have never seen that many people smashing the dance floor to my mix before. I play that style as ‘Wired’ now.
If you had a super power what would it be and why?
I would love to have the power of travelling around the world, and accessing peoples’ minds. I would like to be able to reach the ‘real’ richest peoples’ consciousnesses, those who are ruling the world in depths, and make them do the greater good for our only planet.
Quick Fire Questions – which would you choose?
Cats or dogs? Dogs
Beach or forest? Beach
Mars or Mercury? Mars
Book or film? Film
Tea or coffee? Coffee
Rap or Opera? Opera
Salt or pepper? Pepper
Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse? Bugs Bunny
1210s or CDJs? CDJs
What is your life mantra?
I act today to improve my life tomorrow.
