Myopia's vision of clubbing

Reported by Agnes Klos / Submitted 28-03-10 22:41

Myopia means lost vision or loss of sight. This new Sunday party aims at restoring that lost vision in clubbing. After a successful launch in January clubbers demanded more quality hard house, Hi NRG, hardstyle and bouncy house. As a daytime event it dares to be different and leads the pack, bringing daytime clubbing back to Brixton. Just ahead of the second party which takes place on Easter Sunday and promises amazing features like proper bunny girls Agnes Klos talked to promoter, Robert Hunter.

Hi Rob, thank you for taking some time out to answer questions for HarderFaster readers. Could you tell us, from the beginning, how the whole concept of Myopia began please? Who stands behind the party and when exactly did it all become reality?

The concept behind Myopia is based on the foundations that all parties that become legends start from three things, feel good music, fantastic people and an amazing vibe. Myopia pulls this off with abundance which happened by just putting core elements together. I was sat talking for England, as I'm well known for, having a moan about what was missing in clubland when it became clear. I know great DJs and I have the best of friends who attract the most wonderful, colourful, cheerful people. I then bring in the creative souls and put them all together in one room and enjoy the fireworks. On the 10th January I did just that and I couldn’t have wished for more!

Tell us a bit about yourself, why did you decide to start promoting your own night? What is your story?

After Myopia in January I didn’t plan to do another party but it’s fast becoming an addiction - how can you not love putting on a fantastic event and see so many people have a great time - but it’s really down to the DJs and clubbers that inspired me to do more parties. I felt the buzz and now putting my all into it, but I remain honoured that Myopia is successful because of the Myopia crowd and I love them!

At heart I’m first and foremost a clubber and will stay that way, it’s the best way to recognise if the party is any good. I started off knowing nothing about promoting and being a promoter and just took a chance. I’m learning every step of the way but the scene is very supportive to new promoters with venues looking for fresh new nights and clubbers wanting more. It’s a good time for me to jump in head first and learn to swim fast.

Could you explain to us why you have chosen this name for your party? Is there a hidden meaning to it?

Myopia means lost vision and we aim to restore that vision in music by bringing the magic back to clubbing. Seeing what’s missing through your readers' eyes and restoring it, taking inspiration from the old time greats to the new generation of fun loving people.

What is the music policy of Myopia?

Myopia clubbers would never be put in a box so the same goes for our music!

Every event we start with a new style of music. our first event saw Dariana smash it with her take on funky house, while our next event sees D-J-C revive bassline house in a way that only on hearing will you believe. We’ll also feature DJs that are fast becoming an intergral part of Myopia, Kito, D-viant, Neil Hugo, Pebbles, Fizz Monique, Sach, Simon Black and F-O-I-D. They will all be keeping it fun, fast, happy and hard with a bounce that will send you through the roof!

Does Myopia aim at filling a gap in the clubland market?

Myopia aims to do it better. What better gap could you fill than that?

Could you describe the type of audience Myopia attracts and the ruling atmosphere at your parties?

Myopia is an ever growing group of friends coupled with party professionals of all ages that share a common value of leave the attitude to the music. Everyone is welcome and from the drag queen on the door to the cyber kid on the dance floor.

Myopia is a daytime party. Why not an all-nighter?

You’re seeing the start of something good. I have to get it right and starting Myopia on a Sunday afternoon is the best way, there have already been people shouting “Day time clubbing in Brixton is back”. As a result Myopia will always stay close to its roots but of course our crowd will lead the way.

How do you choose DJs for your parties?

We look for energy, charisma, and DJs that know how to lead the party. We’ll always be looking out for new DJs with past and present DJs becoming playing their part at Myopia.

Who provides the visualisations for the parties?

From our launch we worked with Spangled Productions who turned the 414 into the Myopia garden. I think the visuals and décor are arguably the best seen in London for a long time.

Spangled Productions are going to lead the way in giving clubbers a magical experience with extensive experience in parties and festivals - these guys know how to blow your mind.

Why have you chosen Club 414 for Myopia?

It’s the HarderFaster venue of the year of course!

What kind of surprises have you got prepared for revellers at the Easter Bunny party on 4th April?

The Myopia bunny girls would not be happy if I told you what's going to be in their baskets!

Is Myopia a regular party and when will be the next one after Easter?

Myopia is going from strength to strength and each party will be different from the last to keep the fun fresh and exciting but all with the same fantastic vibe! I'm over the moon with the offers coming in for Myopia with even a festival tent in the pipe line so watch this space.

Thank you for your time and see you at the party on 4th April.
