We're dead Keen on Ben! HF Asks... BK

Reported by Harderfaster / Submitted 30-05-07 16:32

BK, hard dance superstar and musical genius. Over the past 10 years he’s been the driving force behind many a dancefloor smash. Ahead of his headline slot at this weeks Thirsty Thursdays we got together your questions both serious and silly and sent them off through the ether for Ben to answer.

So come with us now and find out the answer to your enquiry. But don’t forget we open at Freedom from 7pm on the 31st of May for another great instalment of TT and of course Mr Ben Keen himself!

Check out the party details and add your name here

Serious questions:

In your opinion, what 3 DJs are leading the Hard House scene at the moment?
Sunnyside

It’s hard for me to say as I don’t get a chance to see other DJs play al lot which is a shame. I just don’t have the time at the moment. I’m a lover of all hard music and often peoples styles are so different. I couldn't compare them and say I liked one more than another.

Most producers always cite their latest tune as their best. So apart from your latest tune's what is your favourite production?
Latex Zebra

Ha Ha, that’s always been my stock answer! I’m into "Microwave" [BK & Vinylgroover from BK’s Under The Influence album] at the moment but it will change.

On top of that, who has done the best remix on one of your tracks?
Latex Zebra

I haven’t had many people remix my stuff. James Lawson did a great job on Bad Ass and Kumara did a good job on Music Is Moving.

What country would you most like to play in?
i-party

I love doing Japan and Canada. But I think the Australian Summer Daze festivals and the UK festivals like Global Gathering are my favourite.

Revolution has to be your biggest track if not one of hard dance's biggest track. However it has also become one of the genre's most decisive, with some saying they love it while others slate it at every opportunity. Recently it seems to have enjoyed resurgence, do you think its time has come again?
Adam Symbiosis

Who knows! It’s the tune I always get asked to play. Music is subjective, one mans gold is another mans shit!

Do you see yourself moving away from the hard dance scene and concentrating on electro or do you see a real future for hard dance?
Hard_nrg

I love HD, I will never move away from it. I produce in other genres so I can improve my production skills. It;s the best way to keep things fresh. I can then take those ideas back to HD.

Are you going to continue pushing new artists on riot! and do you have any names we should look out for in the near future?
Hard_nrg

Sure now the albums finished it will be good to start the hunt for new artists. It’s something I want to put more time into but the album has been my main focus recently so I haven't got any one on the boil yet.

Who taught you to mix and how long did it take?
CK

I learnt from watching from Tony De Vit, Ian M and Pete Wardman from hanging out and watching them at Trade for years. It took me about a month to nail it.

Silly questions:

Do you still use the spy camera watch and have you ever blackmailed your victims with it?
CK

? (Don’t think he’d like to incriminate himself – Ed)

Toilet attendants - nuisance or necessary? Should you tip them or punch them?
CK

Tip them I wouldn't want to clean up piss.

Did Nick give you the message?
i-party

? (Obviously not – Ed)

What’s your favourite cheese?
Ben Rost Wood

Stinky bishop!

Thanks to everyone who submitted questions. We picked names out of a hat and the signed CD winners have now been contacted. If you didn't win, or even if you didn't send in a question you can always catch Ben for free showcasing his brand new tracks at Thirsty Thursdays 31st May 2007. We’ll also have give-aways on the night of a free bottle of vodka, signed CDs and T-Shirts from BK, plus tickets to come of your favourite events and anything else we can get out hands on! Just remember to keep hold of the raffle ticket you get every time you buy a drink.

Considering he's been away for so long and he has so many fans he could have given better answers IMO

From: Anastasia_k on 1st Jun 2007 08:25.23
But on a more positive note. Welcome back MR Keen.

From: iparty on 1st Jun 2007 12:44.25

Anastasia, considering how many interviews he's had, he's probably bored by now of these questions Smile

From: Anastasia_k on 1st Jun 2007 22:11.59
But if it wasnt for his fans he wouldn't be where he is today... So he could spare more than 30 seconds to do the interview.
