Introducing the House Grotto at the HarderFaster Vs Residents Christmas Party

Reported by Ilana B / Submitted 20-12-06 19:08

Deck The Halls, Jingle Bells, Tralalalala and all that... As we approach the season of over-eating, family arguments and getting yet more beige socks as presents, you can’t have helped but notice the build up to the HarderFaster Christmas party at Turnmills this Saturday 23 December. HarderFaster has picked the best of London’s up and coming talents along with resident DJs from promotions that have been rocking the city all year. With house music from funky to down right dirty we’ll keep you grooving all day long, but if you fancy a rest from the dancing join us in all manner of fun and games as we turn Turnmill’s Cinema Room into a House Grotto that would make Santa jealous. I’d like to introduce you to the house residents....

Moochin! is the bastard lovechild of Ricky Wheeler (Mr Kimble) and Lee Jarvis and has two main principles: fun and quality underground house music. From its humble beginnings in East London bars, Moochin! has now taken on famous venues such as Ministry of Sound, Pacha, and SEOne to name a few.

The people are what make Moochin! special; no-one ever goes to just one party, they always go back for more, often becoming loyal supporters and firm friends. The Moochin! djs are becoming firm favourites in the house scene and are now expanding into the world of production.... The future is not f*cking orange, it’s Moochin!, baby! From Moochin! we have Giles Butler.....

Giles Butler

Which party and set has stood out as the best for Moochin! this year?
Hmmm, personally I would have to say my favourite set was ‘Deck Aid with Moochin! - Charity Boaty Party’ we put on a boat party during the summer to raise money for Cancer Research UK and ended up raising £2500!!! Then had some big after party fun at Turnmills! I think the best party we did though would have to be ‘Moochin! Allstars Main Room Cross Carnage!!!!’. We had Paul Jackson & Phil Drummond come down and give the Moochin! faithful a right seeing to! They kept the main room rammed till about 7 in the morning! It’s hard to keep track of all the parties we have done this year, most of them have been pretty special (twisted/random...) in some way!

You’ve had a fantastic year this year, what have you got up your sleeves for next year? And what are you most looking forward to?

We are just finishing off the final preparations for the ‘Moochin! World Tour 07.’ We are basically going to be taking the night on tour around the UK, which is what I’m most looking forward to, turning up at random cities/towns/houses and converting unexpecting ordinary music loving folk into lifetime moochers. We will also be continuing with our strong running bi--monthly residencies at The Rhythm Factory and Plan B as well as a couple of “top secret” gigs that we can’t go into here. But first we kick off the year with a massive NYE party at Rhythm Factory with another ridiculous ‘jack yourself silly’ line up with our friends OCD!

Don’t you think that Santa has an air of evilness about him, creeping into all those children’s room and hiding behind that beard? Would you sit on his lap and what would you ask him for this year?

Santa’s only in it for the money, if you ask me! He sits around in lappo land doing nothing all year then has to do one nights work, flying around on his company sleigh and eating mince pies all night! If he could grant me one Xmas wish it would be to make that blinking ‘chacaron’ track disappear and never to damage our ears again!

Hot & Spicy has really made some waves across London’s house music scene in 2006.
Repeated sell-out events at South London’s Hidden and their local residency at Inigo, not to mention highly successful collaborations with UP^^ at venues like Turnmills. Their dedicated crowd of sexy, up for it clubbers just keeps on growing, and rightly so. Representing Hot & Spicy will be Deanjay....

Deanjay

How would you describe your sound and what or who would you say has influenced you as a DJ?

I play a few different styles depending on where I play. But for the clubs it’s gotta be big vocal house, pianos and basslines and strings and breakdowns and build-ups - just tune after tune no fillers, no let up. Grant Nelson would have to be my main influence - the man is a magician!

Hot & Spicy has had an amazing year, what has been the highlight for you? And where do you see yourself and the promotion going now?

There are so many highlights from this year, the best being the fact that I’ve met so many fantastic people at our events who really know what they are hearing and how to party. Ibiza stands out as a pivotal time for Hot&Spicy - we rocked every spot! On a personal level playing the Heat Boat party was just sublime - sun, sea, stomping and big smiles all the way. From a Hot&Spicy standpoint Liam D and the crew smashing it at Space was something else! The future is looking great for Hot&Spicy, and with our superb crowd onboard things continually get bigger and better

Christmas dinner.... which bird takes your fancy, duck or turkey?

Turkey

Breast or leg?

Both would do very nicely thanks!

Asking for seconds.... a good bit of stuffing or roast Potatoes?

Pots please.

PUSH runs every second Sunday at the infamous White House in Clapham. The hedonistic and stylish afternoon party crowd dances to the best in house, breaks, electro and twisted beats with random live acts thrown into the mix. Some of the scene’s biggest stars having graced the decks (including Shapeshifters, Tall Paul, Krafty Kuts, Judge Jules, Fergie, James Zabelia, X-Press 2, MYNC - the list goes on and on!), but PUSH still continue to support up and coming DJs with some of best new talent in house music on the scene. We look forward to 2007 which sees PUSH move into the Saturday night market to see what special surprises they have up their sleeves. From PUSH we have ‘Djs and their Egos’...

How would you describe your sound?

DJ Ego #1: Driving and with energy.

What DJs or producers have impressed you this year? And who’s your ‘tip for the top’ or ‘one to watch’ for next year?

DE1: Sander Kleinenberg, Steve Angello, Eric Prydz, D. Rimerez, Peter Heller, there is a list as long as a basketballer’s leg! There are loads of random great tracks which have appeared which shows you how vibrant the house scene is.

Have you been good or bad boys this year? And what will you be asking Santa to bring you?

DE1: I’ve been bad to the bone, you can’t be good in clubland, that would take the fun away! Santa could bring me a sold out Brixton Academy for HeatNYE. As Borat says that would be “Nice!”

Clubtown.co.uk is a unique site with live TV and radio shows hosted by a wide range of DJs from all dance music backgrounds. It prides itself on containing current, relevant, regularly updated information, write ups and reviews on anything associated with dance music & club culture. As well as on their site you can see the DJs playing at various nights across London. One of their regular DJs we welcome to the House Grotto is FunkdaFogs...

How would you describe your style of djing and music?

My style of play really originates from back in the day of electro and scratching beats, I like to drop samples over popular tunes whether I’m playing funky housese or r’n’b or even cheese, I don’t like to be pigeon holed..... I am an all round DJ.

What’s been the highlight of your djing so far? And what are you looking forward to next year?

Highlight I would have to say playing in Italy this year, in Ravello at a festival. Such party animals, the Italians. I’m looking forward to getting more gigs to play at over the next year, I run my own business so I’m not always able to tie myself down anywhere, but things are good this year so I will be pushing myself more to do that....

White Christmas with warm clothes or a warm beach Christmas with cold drinks?
Xmas is Xmas so wherever it be I will funk up da place... U get me?!

LG4 are studios that provide a wide range of services for the dance music industry. They have had a great 2006 with lots of new clients working on every thing from remixing production, teaching, DJ mixes to designing flyers and websites. They are very busy with the expansion of the 3rd part to the studio, so look out for more great things from LG4. From LG4 we bring you Prozak to grace the decks on the 23rd....

Prozak

You play a number of different styles of music, which is your favourite and what sounds can we expect you to be getting the HarderFaster Xmas party grooving to?

My favourite style of music is anything with a good beat. Trance, house, techno, it’s all there, I love it all. At the HarderFaster party I plan to play a bit of progressive psychedelic, Don’t get scared, it just sounds like normal progressive house, but with ACE and much cooler sounds...

Which party, DJ or producer has exceeded expectations this year in your eyes (and ears)?

Well production/producer wise I guess I’d have to say psychedelic act Oforia has pushed all expectations. And DJ wise, DJ Westbam from Germany has certainly made me think twice about everything in this DJ business. What an outstanding DJ, person and artist, and where on earth does he get his music from???

What are you looking forward to most this Christmas? And what film do you most associate with Christmas TV viewing?

Xmas, Ha, I’m Jewish, so I guess lots of relaxing, as for the tele, if NTL get there arses round to fix my cable before the New Year, it’ll be a miracle...

At the beginning of 2006 Fundamental hit London at Party Proactive and with various high profile gigs at clubs like Turnmills they have gained a big following that appreciates quality music. Their music spans a range of genres with the simple aim of making a fun party for people to enjoy themselves. They certainly have achieved this and with their last party being a huge success you will be seeing a lot more from these guys next year for sure. Representing Fundamental is Chris Cee...

Chris Cee

This has been a great year for you and Fusic. What was the highlight and would you have done anything different if you could go back?

Wouldn’t change a thing, everything has been great and we’ve been very fortunate and had a blast doing the parties. If 2006 has been a great year for Fusic then 2007 will be an excellent year as we have many big plans and bigger parties, as well as a lot of hard work on fusic.co.uk

Minimal is still strong in the house scene in London, do you have any predictions for next year in house?
I can’t say we really felt the minimal house in 2006, it’s not my or Fusic’s style, all we can predict is that it will be a strong year for house in general and we hope to be pushing the genre, as well as pushing the boundaries of trance, which we still feel is hugely under represented in the London scene.

Now they come in all different sizes and tend to make a terrible mess when you’ve finished with them, you can even get fake fun ones in plastic that are electric, I like quite big ones with a nice shape... where do you stand on the Christmas tree question?

The bigger, brighter the better IMO! With a nice big FU star on top!

More: Yes folks, it’s that time of year again!

Tis the season to be jolly, drink and dance. Tis the season to PARTY!

Good boys and girls get presents. Bad boys and girls get the annual Harderfaster Christmas Party!

Last year we gave many of HFs own up and coming DJs the chance to play Back to Back with some of the world’s most established dance music DJs. Everyone that attended will remember the carnage that ensued and the quality of the music, atmosphere and general Christmas vibe that was projected from every smile on the happy clubbers’ faces.

Once again this year we aim to give all you boys and girls a present that is so big you can’t even fit it under your tree. In fact, it is more likely to make you want to get ‘off your tree’.

We've got some extra special presents lined up for you this year and four, yes FOUR rooms of music so you won't want to miss the party of the year.

Keep your eyes out for more information as Santa sends you more presents to unwrap!
