Amber D to take over the world? You’re not wrong!

Filthy, dirty and hard. Three words which describe Amber D to a T. No I’m not suggesting she’s some sort of unwashed chav who hangs outside the offie with her 20 offspring a la Vicky Pollard. I am, obviously, talking about her music.
In the space of a few short years Amber D has gone from fledgling dj to Mixmag Future Hero to fully blown tidy super hero. Her dj sets rip the roof off every venue she plays, whether that be Ibiza, Dubai, North America, Australia or the UK’s largest dance festivals. Her new EP features some absolutely scorching tracks that have the biggest names and music press chomping at the bit. She plays Extreme Euphoria vs tidy at Es Paradis tonight (August 1st) alongside Andy Farley and is one of the headliners for the massive tidy Weekender 10 at Prestatyn in October. According to recent reports, she is being wooed by Hollywood producers for a major part in a blockbuster movie. She is, in short, on the verge of very, very big things.
One of which is not, she assures us, a singing career. A shame surely after she wowed the crowds in Ibiza with her amazing and apparently ‘unforgettable’ vocal talents . . .
The lovely Amber D
So, Amber, any plans to do karaoke in front of hundreds at Mambo next week?
No, my singing days are over. I can only give so much to the world with my wonderful singing voice. Maybe I will have a big comeback in a year or so . . . Who knows?
Apparently you had the name of a Simpson’s character on your head — which one was it, and more importantly, why??
Lol no I didn’t have the name of a Simpson’s character on my head. I’d actually decided to write “Free Tibet” on my forehead. As you do.
But later on, I tried rubbing it off, but in my drunken state only managed to rub of “Tibet” so I was walking round with “Free” on my forehead for hours!! Get in.
Do you feel able to let your hair down completely when you go to Ibiza?
Yes, I always have a great time in Ibiza, and everywhere else! My philosophy is to enjoy your life while you are young and live life to the full!
Andy Farley’s playing with you again, do you enjoy teaming up with him?
Yeah he’s lovely, and definitely one of the best djs playing for Tidy vs Euphoria. I love him to bits.
From your experience so far, do you think this year has been even better than last?
Last year I would have said nothing could have topped it, but this year has shown me wrong. It’s been fucking amazing!
What do you think to Es Paradis as a venue?
I love it. I love the fact that the dj box is in the middle so you have people dancing all around you. Drinks are bloody expensive though . . .
I’ve been reading the reviews of your first EP and they are somewhat marvellous, congratulations! When you play those tracks out, what’s the reaction like?
Ahhh thank you! To be honest, I spent a LOT of time and energy getting the EP just right . . . I am glad people have recognised how much work must have gone into it. The EP consists of 4 tracks, all different styles of hard dance, to show my love for different sub genres of hard dance.
When I said you could have a few friends over . . .
Were you nervous about releasing a track? Do you feel like you have a lot to prove, simply because you’re a girl and you’re pretty?
I don’t think it ever came into my head about being a girl or whatever when releasing a track. I feel like I have as much to prove as any other dj, but it isn’t, or shouldn’t be anything to do with sex . . .
Anyway!!! Yes of course I was nervous, but the feedback I’ve had has been more than enough for me to know it was going to be well received by the clubbers. Hopefully you all like it!
How much of a geek are you when it comes to music production? Would you be able to sit down and have a full on techy specy conversation with other music nerds?
When I’ve been out with my mates or out in a club, I have been known to get into deep conversations for hours on the subject. One of my favourites is working out reverb times in different shaped / sized rooms made out of different materials with different absorbency qualities . . . . Boring I know! I used to like algebra at school so I think it stems from that.
If you could own any piece of production hardware in the world, what would it be and why?
I’ve just bought it! It’s my Novation Supernova rack mount synth. I wanted the keyboard version but it was just too much money. This one will do though. Just getting to grips with the little blighter now.
What kind of software do you use to produce on? Why did you choose that particular one?
Cubase is the one I’ve used from my college days, but we never used Cubase SX. Now I am getting to grips with Cubase SX 3. It’s definitely easier to navigate round than say Cubase 5.1, which is what I used at school.
Also I love using Reason. I like rewiring it to Cubase to use the NN19 sampler on it as I find it easier to use than HALion or Kontact. For me anyway.
I still don’t think I am yet that confident to totally produce on my own; I mainly make my own remixes/bootlegs to play out in clubs or get midi files together etc. so it saves a lot of time when going to an engineer, and also the final outcome of the track is exactly as I wanted it to be. (Singing a melody to an engineer can be a tedious task, especially if they are tone deaf).
She’s just a girl . . . yeah right, who can produce most boys out of the water . . .
A lot of people assume that most djs just go in to a studio with an engineer and say ‘Make it sound like that’. How important is it for you that people realise you know what you’re doing?
It’s definitely important to me. Especially given my extensive musical background. We will see though, as time progresses I may feel a bit more confident to fully produce on my own.
You’re playing at the tidy Weekender 10 in Prestatyn on October 6–8. Are you going to be there for the whole weekend?
Yeah baby! I think I should be there for the duration. Mine’s a white wine please!
The theme is Super Heroes. Who’s been a hero for you?
My lovely man, Lee. He’s my hero! (blurrghhh!) haha.
How many Weekenders have you played at now and which one has been your favourite?
I have been to all of them except 1 and 2. My favourite has to be when I was lucky enough to do an Essential Mix live on Radio 1. That was capital.
Amber rocks it
Will you be dressing up?
Mmmmmm, don’t know . . . . Probably not, but I am going to try to get Lee into a pair of spandex Y fronts!
If you could be rescued by any superhero, who would it be and why?
Batman, so I could nick his bat mobile and go joyriding in it to Harrods.
Have you ever needed rescuing?
The nice AA man rescued me once . . . I had a blow-out and had a spak-attack because I didn’t know how to change the wheel! What a girl!
Like most djs, you obviously like to party. What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done:
a) at a Weekender
In someone’s chalet mixing with Charlotte Birch with orange swimming armbands on.
b) in Ibiza
Getting a henna tattoo on my hand (I asked for it to be put on my forehead but he wouldn’t do it). It was a picture of a ladybird, with TWAT written underneath. Classic . . .
c) full stop
No that’s about it I think!
Cheers Amber, nice one!

The best Hard Dance DJs on the planet are lining up to tear up the dance floor – get ready for Extreme Euphoria vs tidy to hit the Balearic Isle once again, full force and no holds barred!
Prepare for Hard House in the sun as Es Paradis opens its doors every Tuesday to one of the best nights on the Island. Last year's parties were a runaway success and this year promises to be even better!
The Extreme Euphoria vs tidy crew have pulled out all the stops with some amazing production turning the club in to a hard house home away from home. Lisa Pin-Up, Rob Tissera, Simon Eve, Paul Glazy, Lee Haslam and TYPE 1 have already ripped the club to pieces with thundering hard sets. Miss Pin-Up banged it that hard that the club's managers gave in to the huge cries of "One more! One more!" from the crowd,m and let her play on past the 6am closing time!!
Other world-class DJs flying in this year include the Tidy Boys, Anne Savage, Amber D, Nick Sentience and Andy Farley.
With such a massive line-up of DJs and such an up-for-it crowd, there is only one night, only one club, only one party to be at every Tuesday in Ibiza - Extreme Euphoria vs tidy at Es Paradis!
