Tony Duzzit: doing it for hard dance
Reported by Macavity

Submitted 11-04-06 14:39
Tony Duzzit has been captivated by the scene since its very beginning and remains an instrumental character today. He has, however, moved on from organising illegal woodland raves and is a lynch pin in many respected promotions, including Hectic, EZ Duzzit and Smile, the latter of which will be organising a mad-cap weekend in Ibiza. They held the first one last year, which was such a success they decided to do it again — only this time it will be bigger and better.
Tony’s DJing career is also going well and on 15th April he’ll be making his debut at Polysexual South which Tony describes as, “not getting any better than that.” Let’s meet Tony Duzzit.
So Tony you seem to have lots on at the moment? Fill us in on the main thing that’s getting you excited at the moment.
The main thing I suppose is clubland in London. It’s taken over my life completely and there’s no time to rest at the moment, 100% Classics and Super Sundays are the new projects on the table at Duzzit Events. Both are hosted at the outstanding Factory in Vauxhall. Apart from that, I’m working in the studio on my album and playing out every weekend.
You’re off to Ibiza with EZ Duzzit. What’s so good about partying in the sun?
The good thing about partying in the sun is the people that come with us. We have 80 flights booked and with a roof top pool at our own hotel this looks to be our best trip out there yet.
Last year we took 50 people in June and 60 in September. We have a range of events, like our own Sunset boat party the day we land; Es Paradis VIP lounge, Bar M, The Official Cream Afterparty at Kanya; Itaca, Trops in the West End; and I even manage to get a few DJs to play main room at the infamous Water Party, also at Es Paradis.
We also get to go to Extreme Euphoria at Es Paradis; Cream at Amnesia; Manumission and whatever else takes our fancy. It’s a week filled with the best parties in the world, and the best memories of my whole life.
Will it just be hard house in Ibiza?
We run a universal dance music policy out there. Most of our parties start with a funky vibe, which turns into some light uplifting Ibizian trance. Then comes the UK hard dance/trance and then we bang it right out with some dirty hard house.
We host a couple of funky nights at The Orange Corner and Savannah so all-in-all it’s the best week of the year for me!
You’ve been a pretty well known fixture on the dance scene for many years now. How did you get into it?
It all started in Kent in 1997, myself and a group of friends formed EZ Duzzit on the outdoor circuit. This carried on for five years without a single party getting stopped. A promoter from Smile happened to be at one of our parties in the middle of Hawkenbury woods where we hosted a rave to over 500 people. This was in 2001 and was my London breakthrough.
Since then it’s been a dream come true and it all seems worth it now. I have the likes of Polysexual South and most of the big guns all interested in my music. I played a set after Judge Jules and Lisa Pin Up about seven weeks ago. That’s the icing on the cake.
Do you think you’ll ever tire of the scene? What would you do if you weren’t doing what you’re doing?
I’m in too deep now to tire from the scene. The only way is if the scene gets tired from me: lol. It’s taken me nine years to get where I am, and I’m very proud of what I’ve got going. It’s all about the music for me.
If I weren’t in London doing what I’m doing then I would be promoting something somewhere. Maybe I would be into following festivals around the world! My dream is to run four big festivals a year: one in England, one in Ibiza, one in Thailand and I’m not sure of the 4th one yet! It’s all about following the sun in my later years. Who knows dreams can come true!
Tony Duzzit
How has the scene changed over the years?
It’s changed greatly because it’s a lot more serious now. Before it was a new craze sweeping the UK. I first got into it when I was 15/16 (15years ago) and everyone was into it. Now it’s split into so many different styles. So many new clubbers from around the world are coming to party in London, which I personally think is a good thing, because it opens our scene up to the world. CDs and downloads are doing the same.
Everyone is saying minimal is the next big thing. Maybe it already is. Do you agree?
I must admit its definitely rising and the vibe is awesome. Techy and electronic beats are coming back!! I feel it’s for the older crowd because most of it reminds me of the old tunes back in late 80s and early 90s . I still prefer the uplifting UK hard dance and trance.
And here’s some fun questions.
1) What’s currently in your fridge?
Because of the heavy clubbing schedules every weekend my fridge had lots of fruit. Everyday we grind up smoothies. Bread is barred from my house.
2) What’s your guilty pleasure?
Fast food when I’m on the road, chicken burgers or a Big Mac meal.
3) What’s your favourite gadget?
My Nokia phone, because it’s shatter proof! The only one I’ve had longer that 6 months. It’s 18 months old. lol !!
If they had a musical about your life; what would it be called?
Music Is My Life
Write down the main chorus words to the musical’s main tune?
“Everybody’s free to do what they wanna do, follow me!!”
Thanks Tony....
