Chris Moffitt Tells Us What it’s Like to be Polysexual

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be Polysexual seven days a week? One man who certainly does is Chris Moffitt.... No, he's not some medical phenomena, or the subject of a late night documentary on Channel 5, but the person responsible for making sure Polysexual North does the business. Whether it's booking the DJs, dreaming up themes or producing the flyer, then Moffman is the guy... and he does a mighty fine job. Polysexual was last year's winner at the Hard Dance Awards and it also hosted a humungous tent at Global Gathering, so its profile is damn fierce.
That provides me, the promoter of Polysexual South, with a pretty big challenge. In fact you could call him my clubbing nemesis as we compete to see who has the best party.
Well that’s not strictly true as both teams get on incredibly well and we work together to make sure both parties are as good as they can be. Ahead of Poly South’s first birthday on 18th Feb, I took the Moffman out for a a quick beer and spent a couple of minutes getting to know a little bit more about the muscle behind Poly South’s big sis.
First things first, what’s the main difference between the North and South Crowd
There’s not a lot between them to be honest, they’re both absolutely crackers! One thing is for certain whenever you go to a Polysexual event north or south, you are guaranteed to be surrounded by extreme party animals! Musically I think the London crowd prefer it slightly harder earlier on in the night than we do but there’s is not a lot in it!!
Chris Moffitt and me
What’s your main role within Polysexual, and what other plans does Polys have for 2006?
My role within the company has changed quite a lot since I first began. I started out running the street promotion for Poly in Birmingham, and as much as I loved it I soon discovered that cold weather and myself are not the best of friends!! I have recently taken over the dj bookings for Polysexual North as well as over seeing the press and promotion in general.
Plans for 2006... This is certainly going to be a busy year. Poly will be involved in numerous arena tours and festivals up and down the country as well as continuing with our monthly parties at club air in Birmingham. I can’t disclose to much at the moment but one thing is for certain, the Poly faithful can count on even more superb line ups and wacky themes throughout 2006!!
Moffitt and mates
Where is Polysexual Towers based?
Polysexual North is based at club air in Birmingham. It is a fantastic state of the art venue with three different rooms so you never get bored!! In the main arena we have our beloved Poly, the Nitrogen arena alternates between hardcore and various other brands, and the Carbon Lounge is a funky house room. If you haven’t been already it’s well worth a visit.
What’s the part of the job you enjoy the most?
I enjoy most aspects of the job actually but for me the highlight has to be the night of the event. There is no better feeling in the world than seeing the night full of clubbers having a great time. It’s what makes all the hard work worthwhile. That and the fact that laughing gas is in plentiful supply!
How long have you been working for Polysexual North?
I’ve been working for Poly for about a year and a half now although it feels like a hell of a lot longer!! I was only meant to be taking a year off before going to university and here I am 2 years on!! Its certainly been an experience!
What skills do you think you need to be a good promoter?
First and foremost I think you have to be prepared to work hard and not be afraid to get your hands dirty. It’s not always easy getting up at 4 in the morning mid December to after flyer clubs but that’s what promotion is all about. It’s also really important to enjoy meeting new people and to have good people skills. Do all that and you wont go too far wrong.
The Moffman strikes again
Is the Polys cartoon girl based on a real person? If so who is it?
She is quite a saucy little diva now you come to mention it isn’t she! She wasn’t based on a real person unfortunately but she’s always reminded me of clubbed up Britney Spears.
Have you ever considered dressing up as her?
Many a time Lisa!! But I don’t think I have the figure to pull it off really.
Who are your favorite DJs?
Umm that’s a toughie, it changes almost every week. Poly have two superb residents in Mark H and Hinsley so I always look forward to their sets. Alex Kidd is certainly a talented young man and The Edison Factor are the ones to watch at the moment!!
Poly South celebrates her first birthday already. Can you remember your first Birthday, and can you remember your gift you can remember getting?
I can’t believe it’s a year already, they grow up so fast!! To tell you the truth I can’t remember what I had for breakfast let alone what happened 20 years ago!!
What do you think of the Polysexual South team ?
They all do an amazing job to be honest. The fact that I have never been to a bad Poly South event yet says it all really! Hats off to Dani and Bex, they do an fantastic job in not only promoting the night but with décor for the night as well. I thought the recent Christmas Party looked superb!!
