Interview with Lisa Pin Up!

Reported by Wild Angel / Submitted 15-09-04 20:59

1. Lisa, you’re making your debut at WiLDCHiLD on 1st October when they battle it out with South Coast legends Slinky for the 2nd time this year. What do you know of WiLDCHiLD and can we expect a super special sexy Lisa Pin-Up performance there?
I have never played Wildchild before and as I have heard such good things about the club that I am really looking forward to it to djing there. As for my performance, expect an energetic set, as for a special sexy performance, well I will leave that up to you do decide! Blush

Lisa Pin Up

2. For the benefit of anyone that’s been hiding under a stone for a while, how would you describe ‘your sound’ – preferably in 3 words!
Hard, banging, bouncy!

3. You’re a regular guest at Slinky in Bournemouth and have proved to be a massive hit with the punters. What do you think is the key to the success of this long standing weekly promotion, and what are the highlights of your experiences there?
I have now played for slinky promotions for a number of years and the club is still one of the best in the country. What's great about Slinky is people treat each week as a special event and travel for miles to attend. I have some great memories of the club with last N.Y.E party being extremely fabulous.

4. You made your Hard House Academy main room debut @ Brixton Academy last month. Did you enjoy it as much as the crowd did?
I was on cloud nine, I lost all inhabitations and thoroughly enjoyed myself. One of the best gigs ever, I just felt like I was a clubber up there just dancing along with the crowd and soaking up the atmosphere.

5. How did it feel to be performing in front of such a massive crowd and what was the tune of your set?
The only problem was, I was enjoying myself so much it just went far to quickly! It was a combination of everything, the massive crowd infront of me, the lighting and the sound system, just amazing. As for tune of the night, to many to mention, I love them all!

6. You’ve been a pioneering figure on the music production front and have gained great respect and adoration from it. What have you got in the pipeline and can we expect to hear any new material at WiLDCHiLD?
I have been very busy of late working on new material in the studio. I have just finished a new EP for Nukleuz, with two tunes called "There's a void-ecstasy" and "I've had enough". The first is a more funkier hard house tune, a record more for my slinky sets, a bit more mainstream and a very useable track when playing around the country, but "I've had enough" is bouncy but quite hard, more along the lines of my last track on Nukleuz called "F**k this F**king F**k" a great track for my London sets. I have also been in the process of starting up a new label called 'Pin-Up' records. I have the first record ready to go called "Party tonight" with a remix from Phil Cogan.

7. With tunes such as ‘Biggest Baddest Mutha’ and ‘Goes Like This (Bang)’ under your belt, it must be hard to pick a favourite out of all your productions. But we’re going to make you pick one… so what is it?
I love them all for different reasons, at the moment I am liking "tie me up", "F**k this F**king F**k" and "Goes like this Bang!" but I still dig out "Blow you mind" for softer sets and abroad, when they don't want it too banging, and if my set ever needs a trance track, I like to drop "sometimes were dancing". Saying all that I am really liking my new track "there's a void-ecstasy" and can't wait to play it out, I always seem to get excited about the last tune I produced.

… and what always gets the biggest reaction?
"tie me up" as people just love to sing along to the words "You could tie me up and do whatever you want with me, I have my own ropes, you have me wrong, I never charge money for something I myself find pleasurable!!"

8. You recently completed a tour of Canada, which we’ve heard was a huge success. Can you tell us where you travelled, what clubs you played at and a bit about your experience of the trip.
Well I played @ The Cave for Twisted promotions in Vancouver, The stars in Edmonton, and lastly The whisky club in Calgary. I usually hate travelling too far, that is why I have never ventured out there before, but from the fun I had I think I will start to do a bit more travelling. It was just so nice to meet everyone from Canada, like minded clubbers from half the way around the world.

9. Did the clubs differ to those in the UK and if so, how?
The crowd were just so friendly and kept bringing up my tunes for me to sign. It is great feeling to know that people are thinking of you from all the way around the world and they have not ever even seen me dj before. They asked for a lot of the older tunes that I had produced and it was nice to have an excuse to play them again, they seemed to really appreciate me coming all the way over to see them. Really they were not much different to over here, the crowd sure did know how to party and I made some really lovely friends.

10. Of all the places you play in the UK, where can you say is the current hot spot at the moment?
Concentrated in one area it has to be London, most towns have one venue but London is just bursting with good clubs at the moment.

11. What have you got planned for the rest of 2004 and do you know where you’re going to be on New Years Eve yet?!
I really feel like I need a rest, but I have been asked to make a track on an E.P with other artists, but this is only in the pipeline. Got some fantastic gigs in the pipeline (with Wildchild being one of them!) such as Magna, Hard House Academy, Polysexual, Hardcore heaven, Slinky, Lashed in London, Anarchy, and loads more and before we know it N.Y.E will be upon us, and no I am not giving any clues away where I might be! Also may be going to Australia in January, just planning it now.

What’s your…
Favourite drink?: Vodka
Favourite food?: Pasta
Favourite place to go on holiday? Usually anywhere I am working, nice and free!
Favourite label (clothes and records!!!)? At the moment one from Spain called Mando records, as for clothes, just pick things up here and there, no special label.
Favourite band? Not really into bands
… and finally, if you have time to watch TV,
Favourite TV programme Little Britain

Lisa, many thanks for your time and see you at WiLDCHiLD!!!
