Interview with Lisa Lashes

Reported by Ben Green / Submitted 17-09-03 13:40

Still one of the biggest names in the scene, original Tidy Girl Lisa Lashes returns to London on the 27th September for a slot at the Capital's storming 'Lisa Lashes Extreme Euphoria' night at new venue Turnmills. Ben Green asks the questions...

Ben Green: So, Lisa, when are you playing in London next?

Lisa Lashes: At the end of next month at Extreme Euphoria at Turnmills

Ben: Certainly around London, hard dance promotion seems to be splitting into one or two big players and a variety of smaller, more niche nights. Do you think this is good for the scene?

Lisa: Its always good for the scene, its heathly competition and it keep people on their toes and gives more to the clubbers out there!

Ben: Which, if any, of the smaller promotions have grabbed your attention? Would you consider playing at any of them?

Lisa: Riot and of course I want to play!

Ben: Have you noticed any changes in the types of crowds you've played to in comparison with a couple of years ago (e.g. age, attitude to the music, etc.)?

Lisa: Everything changes as time goes by, fashion, musically styles and favours but everyone is still up for the party and the atmospheres are still just as good!

Ben: You must be excited about Lashed in Ibiza this year. Tell us a little bit about it.

Lisa: Every wednesday at Eden, with have DJs such as Tidy Boys, Andy farley, Paul Gazlby, BK, Anne Savage and of course we have the debut residency of Leeroy Thornhill...Giving the white isle some harder stuff for the serious clubbers out there that like there bpm´s up there...

Ben: I was surprised to see Leeroy from The Prodigy co-hosting Lashed - how did that come about? And which was your favourite Prodigy track?

Lisa: We meet a few years ago on tour in the US, then got chatting, he´s been playing for years but not on the dj circut, he send over a demo as I really love the breaks sound and the rest is history! My fav track has to be smack my bitch up!

Ben: There's loads of fantastic female DJs coming through at the moment. Who's your favourite of the up-and-coming girls?

Lisa: I havent really heard that many play such of late but I hear good things about Tara Reynolds and Charlotte Birch.

Ben: What's on the production horizon for you?

Lisa: Just released my new single and an album for Extreme euphoria so I imagine that I will be doing more stuff later in the year.

Ben: Do you have anyone you're hoping to collaborate with, production wise, in the near future?

Lisa: Hopefully getting something sorted with Leeroy, waiting to get in the studio with BK as well, maybe do something different like a hard breaks sound.

Ben: If you could have a gig playing a different style of dance music, what would you choose?

Lisa: It would be breaks, old skool and funky electro stuff, I am playing a lot of back room sets at Lashed in Ibiza this summer and really loving it!

Ben: There's a lot of antipodeans on this site, and my friends down-under are looking forward to seeing you at your upcoming tour with Slinky in Oz and NZ. How do you rate the scene in these countries compared with the UK?

Lisa: I love doing the big tour and festival abroad, Oz & NZ are always great fun (but the travelling is a killer!) the people are just fantastic and I always have a good time.

Ben: Who are your best friends in the scene?

Lisa: Savage, Rob Tissera, Glazby, Ilogik, Neil Appeal etc

Ben: And any enemies? Wink

Lisa: We are all good friends and love the scene we are in...

Ben: Are you a Big Brother addict? If so, who's your tip to win?

Lisa: Ray should have won it...

Finally,

Brain or Brawn? Brain
Love or Lust? Love
Tea or Coffee? Coffee
Steak or Salad? Salad
Summer or Winter? Summer
