Enzos @ The High Post Hotel - Review

Reported by Robert Muir / Submitted 08-12-02 22:24

I’m going to start on a downer – no its not Monday morning and you realise that the weekend has paid a hard price on your sanity and your mind – no, Enzos is shutting down! – If you haven’t been to this place its been running for over 8 yrs now and has held homage to the best nights out for me this side of London. Holding monthly Nukleuz events and having the likes of Anne Savage, Lisa Pin Up, Lisa Lashes, and Pete Wardman etc on regular visits – it’s a goldmine. You're probably thinking Enzos, why so special? Well trust me, a club that everyone feels at home in, no hassle and everyone is so relaxed and the club is so well decorated. The owner Paul has created something very special and it will be a damn shame to lose such a great club to visit. Enough of that – there still 4 great weeks left, onto the night itself, as usual a mind blower of a line up 1) BK, 2) Ed Real, 3) Knuckleheads and 4) Matt Handy – enough said!

Knuckleheads 1000-1100
Ed Real 1100-1230
BK 1230-0200
Matt Handy 0200-0300

With the Revolution going on at present with BK and my favourite DJ at the moment, Mr Ed Real - you can sell out a do with just these two names! I’ve seen the Knuckleheadz before at Enzos and I am quickly becoming favoured to their way of playing – a treat. But a name new to me (and a name to watch) was Matt Handy; he’s a damn good scratcher and a pleasure to watch.

It was a joy to walk into the club and as usual, that same old feeling knowing it was going to go large. I was greeted by Ed Real taking over from the Knuckleheadz, as you all well know Ed cuts the mustard every time you see him, banging tune after banging tune and seamless mix after seamless mix – he was unf*cking believable. The crowd were really going for it and everyone smiling from ear to ear – the tune that made me get up and go was DJ Kim’s “Jetlag” (hard Version), it still makes me goosebumply. Then up stood BK and you know your gonna 'av it (sorry to sound clichéd, but that’s how I felt) As a producer as you all well know, he’s at the top of his game and a damn good DJ to boot – a perfect package. I wasn’t going to miss this so I took my pew at the side of the DJ booth to see what was a perfect set, from the perfect tunes and seeing the crowd react to every record played. I managed to grab BK for an Xclusive interview, which is coming soon to HF so look out.

Big Tunes from his set were “I don’t care” (BK RMX), “Face Facts” (Andy Farley + BK). I still cant get bored with “Revolution” as it still sounds as fresh now as it did when I first heard it at the beginning of the summer - plus it sounds and feels better when the producer is playing it there in front of you. It was a shame when the set was over, but Matt Handy played up to the big names, and if you didn’t look to see who was playing you would of thought BK or Ed were still up there, he played a good set, short but sweet. With thanks to Paul for another perfect night and for the hospitality. Sorry to Claire Wiggins (HarderFaster reader) for not meeting up with you – but was here, there and every where. The last Nukleuz Night at Enzos is one NOT to miss – Trust me!

Have to agree with you tht it is a shame that Enzo's is closing; not only did it showcase some of the best DJs on the circuit (I've seen Tinrib, Jon Doe and a whole host of others there) but it also had some of the latest talents (Grubby, Jimage to name but 2) banging it out to a well up fer it crowd.
My only bad point about the club was that there were too many beered up blokes, but then again, so many other clubs do these days!!)

Enzo's RIP, Paul, ya did a grand job.

It was a very good night indeed from what I caught of it and is a real shame the club is closing but did the second room not deserve a short write up within the review?

Thanks Claire, I thought it went pretty well also which is why I was dissappointed not to see a short write up about it on this review. Oh well, nice to meet up with you although didn't get much chance for a chat but am sure we will catch up soon.
