Peroxide Tour @ Hard Kandy, Melbourne Reported by KeLSTa / Submitted 13-09-02 11:55 After an already grueling 5 weeks on the road, it was time for the Peroxide Tour to hit Melbourne shores. Having recently taken New Zealand by storm, Daniel Ro flew into Melbourne to return to Hard Kandy, where just 4 months ago, he had firmly stamped his unique style into the minds of the Kandy clubbers. This time, he was to be accompanied by his production partner Phil Wale, better known to us as Mobi D, who has had previous success from producing and remixing some stormers on 12 Inch Thumpers. Daniel Ro and Mobi D’s Peroxide label came out of the woodwork in 2001 and secured its hold on the world’s Hard Trance/Hard NRG scene with such incredible releases as “Remedy, Jen/R/8 and It’s Mine. Also in 2001, Daniel was voted “Best Newcomer Of The Year” on EnergyUK.net, one of the UK’s biggest dance sites. Peroxide Records made its way to the top of its genre, with their tracks being well played by some of the scene’s biggest and most respected DJ’s, such as Andy Farley, Fergie, Anne Savage, Phil Reynolds and Nick Sentience. He is also a regular feature in the music press. Daniel and Mobi D have developed the perfect blend of German Hard Trance, and combined it with the furiously pumping energy and vibes of the UK Hard House sound. Daniel has tracks licensed to such compilations as “Frantic 2002”, “Reactivate Energise”, “Dancevalley/HQ presents: Tom Harding” and “Energy Essence 3” (mixed by Yoji Biomehanika). But that’s not all. He has also produced tracks for Fevah Trance, Dynamix with Kevin Energy, remixes due soon on Impact, Hard Dance (Matt Clarke’s new label) and is being hunted by Recover, Stimulant and Sectioned – just to name a few! He now also holds an exclusive residency with Logic at The Fridge, one of the UK’s fastest growing clubs and certainly one to watch in the future, as well as Mr. Whippy in Cambridge. Daniel currently plays guest spots all over London at clubs such as Heat at Turnmills and the Camden Palace, Fevah @ Heaven and Synergy at the Fridge. The future too looks bright for Peroxide, with many up and coming releases that will keep you glued to the dance floor and screaming for more. Can you believe these guys are only 24 and have done all of this in the past 2 years? Truly inspirational. I could go on about Daniel and Mobi D’s phenomenal successes over the past 2 years, but I will let their sets speak for themselves... So it’s back to Hard Kandy. I arrived at the club with a very excited Daniel and Mobi D, around 2am. It was off to the bar for a couple of drinks, before we settled in to check out Krash, a founding DJ of Kandy and one of Melbourne’s most respected Hard House DJ’s and producers. He started off our night with some melodic yet banging tunes, bringing the punters onto the dance floor for a warm up to Mobi D’s set. At 3:30am, it was time for Mobi D to step up to the decks, in his first ever trip to Australia. He had heard many things about Kandy, and his excitement and energy shone through in his set. Constantly working the crowd with his ultra tight mixing and dance moves behind the decks, Mobi D played a very unique set, blending the best of current Hard House and Hard Trance tunes available. He dropped a remix of Love Parade which ignited the crowd and sent the rest of the punters off to the dance floor. Before I knew it, it was 5am and after a brief introduction, it was time for Daniel Ro to return to the Kandy stage. People were still flowing into the club by this stage, and their bodies and feet had no option but to go straight to the dance floor as Daniel took control of the sound. Daniel had brought with him a wide selection of new tunes that he and others had recently produced, and was well on his way to showing the crowds just what Peroxide records was all about. Having played in a band since he was 16, Daniel is no stranger to a crowd, and we could soon see why. He started off on a softer edge, planning to raise the energy of his set as he went along and work the crowd into a frenzy – good choice too Daniel, as this is what the Kandy kids savour best! It wasn’t long before he played Remedy, which had the punters screaming with hands in the air, showing their appreciation at a tune that has found a fond home on the Kandy stage. I was very eager to hear what new tunes were coming out of the London studios at the moment and Daniel gripped my attention by playing one of his new tunes, called Deeper, which has been storming the clubs at each gig he plays. The tune was funky yet driving, with a sweet female vocal and a lead riff that sent a shiver down my spine. It is certainly going to be a massive tune for him, and well deserved too. Another new tune that drove the crowds to dance harder was Subterrain, a darker, harder track with a riff to match. If you are already a fan of Peroxide records, then keep your eyes peeled for their future releases. Finishing off his set with a new tune from Skol, soon to be released on Fevah Trance, he had built up the energy inside the club to fever pitch. Daniel once again played a well planned out set, taking the punters on a journey of some of the best Hard Trance tunes I have heard in a while. Jeremy K and Richie Braic were the 2 DJ’s who followed the Peroxide boy’s, keeping the dance floor full with their trademark sounds, one’s that the Kandy punters have come to love. It was time for us to have a rest at this point, time for another drink, and time to whisk Daniel and Mobi D away for an hour to sign some autographs and chill out with some friends. It wasn’t too long before we ventured back downstairs to the club to listen to Kandy’s own Scott Alert, a DJ who has wooed the crowds time and time again. Scott had only recently returned from a 6 weeks stint of playing in the UK, and the crowds were certainly still up for some punishment at 8am. It was time for us to play and time to dance out the rest of night on the dance floor to some of Scott’s morning beats. He played a mixture of new and old, bringing back some old classics to keep the crowds going till 11am. And just when you thought it was time to go, Daniel stepped up to the plate once more to have the pleasure of dropping the last tune. It was almost unfair to play what he did, because it was such an amazing tune that he left the crowd hungrily wanting more. He played his new remix of Lost in Space. I couldn’t find the right words that would do this track justice; it left me speechless and with one of the biggest, cheesiest grins on my face. It just reiterated how talented Daniel is a producer and remixer, and how far he and Mobi D will take Peroxide records. A perfect way to end off an awesome night. The future holds great things for these boys and I am eagerly awaiting their return to Melbourne. I can honestly say that I hold Daniel and Mobi D in the highest regard as DJ’s and producers, right up there next to some of the best in the world.
