UNITY: Frantic meets Sundissential & GoodGreef - Review

Reported by Dory-EE / Submitted 19-07-02 09:20

U N I T Y

Ultimate Night of Indoor Thumping, Y?

...you’ll understand if you were there...

Warning: The following material might be harmful and electrifying to members of the following organisations: Sensitive Clubbing UK, DaintyFeet.Org, Singalong.dong, Sensitive readers include: young fun people with dainty feet, who love singalong songs, drink cocktails and despise perspiration...BUT, members of HarderFaster...please indulge.

It all started when you read the DJ line-up from the FRANTIC e-flyer... eyes growing wider, eyebrows lifting higher (creating twenty fine lines on your forehead), jaw dropping down, voice pitch rising in frequency and intensity! Ending reading with “AND ANDY FARLEY!” Now you need to get your breath back and lower your heart rate from 126 to 72 bts/min, otherwise your fellow office workers might point and stare and become all too curious as to which dirty email you were reading now...

Do you know why your mobile bill is so high every month? It’s all those sms’s you send to all your clubbing buddies every time you go clubbing. Inviting them, convincing them, psyching them up, arranging to meet, planning pre-drinks, sorting stuff out, all in the name of FUN. The better you plan, the more you can focus on your dance moves and let the DJ’s carry you through the night on their strong arms of base, beats and ballistic operas!

Right from the start Alex Kidd, followed by Steve Hill, played ‘ARD, man. So hard, I said to myself: “Myself, you’ll be diagnosed with shin splints before Big Ben bangs six times tonight!” So what, bring it on! Let’s dance the air our of Nike Air! ‘cause you know what, us colourful ants are on a mission...a mission to tease, ease and please...or just to enjoy ourselves above average, if you like – (I just like the e-sound in those words...!!) It may look like the lasers and lights make us crazy: walking up and down endless flights of stairs, drinking SWEET drinks, chewing like sheep all night (minging, for future reference), consuming, absorbing, and leaking water as a form of communication which every one seems to understand.

Camden Palace has an enchanting atmosphere. It’s alive, it’s four dimensional (the music is the fourth dimension), and it interacts and plays with the tunes and people inside its womb...and what a crowd gathered on this special night. Enthusiastically we sang in a shouting voice to Madonna’s “like a prayer”, and who was the brilliant DJ to play Eurithmics’ Sweet Dreams...must have been Karim...so love that song...sometimes feels weird to singalong to hard house, doesn’t it? That’s why they only play five songs with words throughout the 9 hours...

Karim’s touch on the turntables is so pleasing to the face that my smile over-exposed my teeth! At some point during the night the songs seemed individually great, but not binding and building up as much as I expected...so I ran upstairs (and up more stairs and a few more) to the Hard Trance room where DJ’s Guffy, Shan (oh what a set) and Steve Nichols synchronised my feet, emotions, endorphins and energy to their inspirational intergalactic ideas of Trance! It took Trance to a higher level...it winds you up and up and up, whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop, trrrrrrrrrr dissssssssssssh, till you explode with joys (such a short word for such an intense emotion). Rocking, bouncing, loving every minute!

“As the pounding legs and trails descend to the morn, we adore to be here...nested in our own puddles, forever counted for” - nice one Gavin!!

Intermittent silences bring us together (Unity, Unit-E).

Back in the main room, I noticed the space between everyone diminishing. Sparkling faces moving in the direction of the lights...one ultimate parting and then we all face forward...focussing on the stage because 5am has arrived...

The answer to the build up of one hard night with uplifting stomping music...is Andy Farley...superhero...superdj...superb.

THANK YOU FRANTIC. Thank you for inviting Sundissential and Goodgreef. Thank you for creating memorable nights like UNITY.

This music paints my picture of love, life and energy.

See you on the dance floors this summer!
