Vicious Circle Label Profile

Reported by Jon Rundell / Submitted 11-03-02 13:15

Since Paul Glazby’s first release on Recharge and the subsequent mix for the first Insomnia album, this powerhouse a man has forged away with Scott and Les to create the fastest ever growing underground label to date.

Vicious Circle was established in October 2000 and the first release was an instant hit, Paul’s “Kick It” still sells through now and featured rave reviews in every major dance publication as well as on compilation albums all over the world, thanks to an overwhelming amount of support from all the key major players in the scene. Coupled with the rise to fame of Paul’s now legendary residency at Insomniacz, this set the standard of the label, and what better way to enhance it than to ask Andy Farley to produce the second release, “Out of Control”

After the first two releases the label had gained instant icon status and there was a massive buzz in the media, the industry, the clubs and of course amongst the clubbers. The uncompromising, raw, tough energy had been missing during this period of dominating off beat bass lines, hoover patterns and sirens.

Paul then decided to enlist the help of one of the toughest men on the hard underground scene. Up stepped RR Fierce and he didn’t disappoint by nay means. The labels identity and purpose became more than clear and it didn’t look like it would stop. Following on from the dream start, Paul turned to Eufex and Justin Bourne to stoke the fires before releasing the second of own tracks for the label. Karim provided a remix to an already monster of a track and another anthem was born (Here We Go). Sales hit the roof and again there was a huge media buzz with compilation compilers begging for the track.

The speed of the label continued and “Beautiful” was born. Another instant anthem from the man himself that was one of the biggest club records in 2001. Every club you went to you heard this record, everybody was playing it and everybody wanted, sales hit the roof and it got signed to compilations all over the world. It was also at this time that Paul provided the magic touch to a certain Miss Shiva record, “Dreams”, it hit international status and confirmed what that underground already knew, Paul Glazby was the man for 2002.

All this after only a year, and by now the Vicious Circle tour had become a key ingredient to the success of a lot of established nights. A lot has to do with Glazby’s notoriously tough A&R skills, having been known to turn down some excellent tracks because they are just simply not hard enough, and to the dedication of Tour Manager Scott and the drive of Les to succeed.

For 2002, the year so far has followed on as it finished. Big tracks form Andy Farley and Paul Janes (I Can Feel It), RR Fierce (Yamamba) and Defective Audio (Re-Flux) have all smashed the dance floors alight. Continuing on we are set for some real treats, namely Paul Janes remix of Beautiful and forthcoming mixes from some very high profile artists that have not as yet appeared on the label. Word Tours are also in the pipeline to help pioneer the underground movement, coupled with a mix album as the label builds a more global reputation. The future of the underground scene certainly seems bright, and the future is Vicious Circle.
