Nine years ago, a small club night called THE GALLERY was born, deep within the complex of Turnmills, London. With “unknown” DJs like Tall Paul, Steve Lee and Lottie at the helm, The Gallery’s quest for “EXCELLENCE IN THE ART OF SOUND” made the night an overnight success. Nine years on… The Gallery is still very much an essential weekly club for London. Pioneering new musical trends and DJs from around the world, The Gallery continues to set the standard for other clubs to follow.
On FRIDAY 30TH APRIL, The Gallery invites you to join us for our biggest night of the year. Indeed a Gallery Birthday night is definitely one of the most spectacular parties on the clubbing calendar and to help us celebrate, we’ve selected a very special line-up that reflects the DJs that we’ve championed during our being, whilst showcasing new DJs and concepts we have planned for 2004.
ARMIN VAN BUUREN – the World’s No.3 DJ has just been added to The Gallery’s mammoth 9th Birthday line-up. Having launched his own label Armada, released his debut album ‘76’ and rocked clubs all over the globe in the past 12 months, the addition of AVB to the Birthday rostrum is a special extra treat to all The Gallery’s regulars as a Thank You to those who have supported us over the past 9 years.
Continuing in the Main Room, chief Resident and general Gallery guv’nor TALL PAUL carries on what he started all those years ago with the peak time set. Back in the day, Paul was one of the original “Superstar DJs” together with Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine, Carl Cox and JUDGE JULES for whom joins Paul behind the decks for the birthday bash. Jules has been rocking The Gallery since its inception back in 1995 and to this very day, the club remains one of his favourite places to play, based on the crowd’s open mindedness and his freedom to spin a very different set to the ones you might hear him drop elsewhere. The third Main Room headliner is BENNY BENASSI, Italy’s DJ of the Year and last year’s most talked about Producer. Having made the Ibiza smash hit ‘Satisfaction’ and recently mixed the new Subliminal Sessions compilation, it’s as a DJ that we love Benny the most. He made his UK debut at The Gallery at the tale end of 2003 and like his productions, his DJ sound is so fresh and interesting. Already a huge hit on The Gallery dancefloor, Benny is our big tip for 2004. Don’t forget you can only hear his electro-house groove exclusively in London here at Turnmills!! Completing the Main Room billing is Gallery Residents STEVE LEE, ALEX ANDERSON and GAVYN MYTCHEL. The residents’ role is obviously one of great importance – keeping The Gallery diehards pumping until 7.30am (and then some!!), and in these DJs, you have three of the most talented, yet underrated DJs on the block.
Room 2 (T2) sees the return of JAMES HOLDEN and his BORDER COMMUNITY record label to The Gallery following their impressive debut outing in February 04. Joined by hot new Swedish sensation PETTER and ASHLEY CASSELLE, James will be dropping the lush ambient house and techno that he’s become accustomed to over the years. There’s also time for a LIVE PA from THE MFA – new signings to the Border Community. Room 3 (Juno’s) meanwhile is a Gallery headline line-up in its own right with two of our all-time favourite DJs NICK WARREN and DAVE SEAMAN taking centre stage. The choice of DJs for the birthday is truly astounding and with support from house heads SLACKER and PETE GOODING, there is only place to be on Friday 30th April.
