This is an event we all wish wasn't happening.
Our friend Laura (Lady ASBO) died suddenly in December 2009. She
was a talented DJ, who regularly graced the decks at IVY both as a
solo artist and also as one half of The Finishers. Lady ASBO was also
making waves in the London hardhouse scene, playing at events for
TWIST and FRANTIC as well as HARDSOUTH in Brighton. Lady ASBO
had also just begun to produce her own music, gaining a release on
Atomik Reaction with her first tune 'Marischal Street'. Not only have
we lost someone we loved, a great talent has been taken from us all.
Laura lived life to the full, she loved parties, dancefloors, people and
had a true passion for filthy, hoover-laden hardhouse and NRG. We
decided that we had to pay tribute to our friend, who we will miss
always, in the way that brought us all together and made us close – by
having a right good hally racket!
There was only one person that could ever provide a fitting tribute to
Lady ASBO, and that is her favourite hardhouse DJ and producer,
KARIM. A true pioneer of the UK hardhouse / NRG sound, KARIM has
been producing no-nonsense filth and destroying dancefloors with his
unique sets for the last 15 years. Playing mostly his own exclusive
tunes, KARIM is like no other hardhouse DJ. He regularly plays the last
set at events across the UK, delighting his dedicated legions of fans.
He has been resident at seminal events such as FIST and SUPERFISH
and is currently resident at TWIST. Based in London, KARIM is making
his Aberdeen debut and a rare Scottish appearance to honour Laura,
who he knew personally, and is not asking for a fee to do so.
Also playing on the night will be two of Laura's closest friends – SKELP
and THE CYBER SCOTSMAN who will be playing sets full of the tunes
that Laura loved – from 'bouncy bouncy' to 'nails' and a little bit of
'trunce'.
We hope you can come along and help us celebrate the life of our
extraordinary friend, and all profits from the night will be donated to a
charity chosen by her family.
