The legendary Purple Turtle in Camden was infamous for hosting hedonistic Hard House events on Sunday nights back in the day, from the days of hosting Torture Garden’s sister club Seed (2000-03) to Ultim-8 to BYTE. In full flight “The Turtle’s” vibe of intense, full throttle mayhem could not be replicated in any other venue about London Town...it was a magical and surreal journey through the harder side of House music from the minute you stepped into the venue’ til the ‘one more’ has been spun...it just had ‘that’ edge!
We are proud to announce that a few of the influential artists/DJs, who over the years have helped to build the success of Hard House at the Purple Turtle have now come together to resurrect the Venue to its rightful status...we bring you BYTE presents RESURRECTION to be held on Friday, 8 April 2011. For this Blockbuster we can assure you that the music is going to get pretty banging as we welcome on the night one of the Pioneers of Hard House, Paul King!
From his early releases such as “Elevate” on Jump Wax and “Kick it in” on TDV, right through to the more recent “What ya got” on Vicious Circle and “Turn it up” on Toolbox, Paul’s productions have always been in a league of their own. To say Paul King had his own style just wouldn’t be fitting enough, as Paul created a whole new sound that has now been loved by hard house fans for well over a decade.
It was in the 90’s that Paul first burst onto the scene and was immediately taken under the wing of the late Tony de Vit, who instantly branded Paul “one to watch” for his fresh and innovative productions. With the support of Tony and every other influential Hard House DJs on the circuit, Paul soon became a regular name on the two record labels that were THE labels to be seen on, Tripoli and Tidy Trax. On Tripoli he gave us his F1 productions and on Tidy he delivered his fiercer than fierce Trauma releases… It was under these production names that Paul dominated the scene and became an inspiration to many.
His discography reads like an A to Z hard house bible, with remixes and releases on almost every major hard house dedicated label… these include the already mentioned Tidy, Tripoli, Toolbox and Vicious, along with labels old and new such as Trade, Deprivation, Knuckleheadz, TEC, Short Circuit, Flashpoint and Chug N Bump to name just a few.
We also welcome back out of ‘retirement’ one the UK’s finest Hard NRG imports in the likes of George E!!! A prominent DJ/Producer on the UK Underground Hard House/HARD NRG scene 99 - 08 when he decided to 'take a break' (DJs never retire!!!).
Although his musical roots originally from classical back ground in his childhood, George E's sound was nursed by the Dance Floor and atmosphere of the legendary Sunday Nights at the Purple Turtle where he layed down the law to the floor week in and week out. From his success of working the dance floor of The Turtle to Hard House heaven, flowed a residency at Torture Garden where he played he played the last set month-month for many a year! For a few years he grafted away on the U/Ground scene playing his residency at Torture Garden and other extreme clubs incl. rhe likes of Fist/Hard-On.
George E later became immensely popular on the over ground scene and went on to play most of the big venues (Camden Palace, Ministry of Sound, Mass, Fridge, EGG, Crash, Scala et al) and events (Frantic/Heat/Sundissential/Housewives Choice/HHA and more) and spent his years with plenty of residencies in and around London and invitations to Australia, South Africa and Ibiza during the summer months to play a more chunky-ass sound to the delight of the balearic punters!
His production career saw him team up with the likes of DMF/Marc Johnson/Nik Denton/Pual King (aka F1/Trauma/Pants & Corset)/Dan Madams/Steve Maynard/Alex Calver to name but a few with releases on Elasticman/12" Thumpers under his guise Plaztik Surgeons/Toolbox Records/Flashpoint Records/Feersum Records/Eire label - Hardsounds and US Hard NRG Label - Infectious.
His releases was supported by many of the Hard House/Hard NRG scenes heavy weights both in the UK and further a field. Compilation appearances on Ian M's Wild Wild West (Tidy Weekender 8) compilation, Lisa Lashes's 'Lashed in Australia' and Paul Glazby's 'Live in South Africa’, Flashpoint Records 'Industrial Strength' Compilation and a string of other commercial compilations to boot!
Being scouted early in his production career by elite music publisher, Paul Rodriguez Music (Publishers), George E was rated (next to Greg Ferguson aka Shark Boy) as South Africa's most successful Hard House/NU NRG producer during his career based on profile and success of his releases.
Now come join us to celebrate the Resurrection of Hard House at the Purple Turtle where we will take you on a true musical journey...that’s it for now...we will let the music do the rest of the talking...
