Bedrock roll back the years, as they bring you a one-off session on Easter Thursday (5th April) at Heaven - just like the good ol’ days huh?! Calling all house heads, train-spotters, party boys and late-night freaks… get ready for the mother of all Easter Extravaganzas as John Digweed’s globally acclaimed club night returns to its old stomping ground… and YOU my friend, are most definitely invited.
It was way back in 1998 when Bedrock first took over Heaven under those infamous arches. The monthly parties that followed soon became part of clubbing folklore and anyone who ever danced the night away down there will testify as to what a phenomenon the night was. Over the years Bedrock continued to push the musical boundaries to dizzy new heights and in doing so helped launch and subsequently develop the careers of Danny Howells, Jimmy Van M, Chris Fortier and Guy Gerber (to name a few). The renowned Bedrock Records then launched a year after the club did in 1999 and many more acclaimed artists soon joined the Bedrock cult – including Steve Lawler, Desyn Masiello, Hyper, John Creamer & Stephane K, Suicide Sports Club, Brancaccio & Aisher, Luke Fair, Pole Folder and Mashtronic. Musically, Bedrock has always been a devotee to the progressive sound – whilst keeping one foot firmly rooted in the electro, tech and breakbeat scenes.
“The reason I started Bedrock (the club) was basically to get more gigs for myself”, John Digweed explains. “I soon learnt the satisfaction in producing your own event and controlling the music by who else played, but basically at the very beginning it was to get me exposure, pure and simple.” The Bedrock empire began in John’s ‘hood’ — Hastings in Sussex, on the South Coast of England back in early ‘90s at a wee venue called The Crypt. “Later we went to The Pier, which is where people seem to know of us best. It became monthly once we were established.”
Since those humble early beginnings, John Digweed still remains one of the world’s most pioneering DJ/Producers. His list of achievements is groundbreaking to say the least. Highlights include doing the first proper DJ mix compilation for Renaissance in 1994 with (partner in crime) Sasha, being the first British DJ to hold a residency at what was then the world’s most well known club in NYC - Twilo, (also with Sasha), as well as having remixed music by Danny Tenaglia, Underworld, Quincy Jones and New Order. Other benchmarks saw John reaching the top of his profession in 2001 when he was voted No.1 in DJ Mag’s prestigious Top 100 DJ Poll and established the Bedrock brand all over the globe. Together with hid Bedrock production partner Nick Muir, John’s recently scored the Hollywood film ‘Strak Raving Mad’, as well as the animated release of ‘Spider-Man’ for MTV, plus his Kiss100 radio show remains one of the most successful dance music shows of all time and has amassed a cult status throughout the world. Legend is an over used word these days, but when you look at Diggers and all he has achieved with Bedrock and beyond, we challenge you to think up a more appropriate word.
So then, John Digweed will have the Bedrock faithful licking their lips with joy as he’ll be dropping an extended 5 Hour Set on the night, with main room support from US superstar Jimmy Van M. Like Digweed, Van M is synonymous with Bedrock and was himself a Twilo resident (1996-2000). He played a pivotal role in the formation of the Delta Heavy Tour and has headlined many a festival tent in his time across the four corners of this world. Jimmy jets into London for an exclusive set in the capital – so do not miss this rare treat to see one of the true DJ greats in action.
Elsewhere on the night, get ready for an epic 6 Hour Set from the SOS crew - that’s Demi, Desyn Masiello and Omid16B – up in the Star Bar. Sponsored by Pioneer Pro DJ, the 3 amigos will be playing solely and exclusively on Pioneer kit… 4 x CDJ-1000MK3’s, 3 x DJM-800’s, 2 x EFX-1000’s, plus 3 Laptops and 3 dodgy looking Turks (Omid’s words not ours!!) all night long. Fresh from a roadblock outing at Turnmills in January and of course that unforgettable set at the last Bedrock event, SOS have set their stall out for what looks set to be a very exciting year ahead. Rising Bedrock star Neil Quigley will be flexing his skills in the Dakota Bar alongside fellow Bedrock fave Jonathan Lisle, whilst aside fro decking the entire club out in Pioneer kit, the Pro DJ team of Martin Dockree and Rik Parkinson will also be showcasing their equipment good and proper as they host the VIP Room for the night.
As you would expect for a night of this size and reputation, Advance Tickets are already selling out fast!!
