Hailing from Melbourne Australia, DJ Macey has risen fast to become an established part of the hard dance scene in the UK.

From his first “Who the F%*k is Carl Cox?” clubbing experience in 1995, Macey’s love for the dance music scene is now apparent with his status as both a committed and respected DJ and event promoter.

With clubbing roots in the Psychedelic Trance scene in Victoria, Australia, Macey first took to the decks on his arrival in London in 1999. Within 6 months, Macey’s long running TORQUE parties originally held at WestOneFour was up and running as a weekly Sunday happening.

Macey is clear on what Torque means to him: “Torque is a party. It is not an event. There is a big difference. A party is thrown for the purpose of pleasure, and not profit driven like an event.”

In July 2000 Macey found himself as co-promoter of the now legendary hard dance event Quake. Progressive in attitude from the outset, Quake soon boasted a fiercely loyal following, showcasing the finest DJ talent and live acts available to hard dance, playing out at London’s biggest venues in the Fridge, Bagleys, The Scala and Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

The beginning of 2001 saw Macey break away and concentrate solely on Torque. Applying his acquired skills and experience, Torque soon reached new heights, and now with a loyalty of its own, hosting regular dates at The Fridge, The Coronet and always-memorable summer boat parties on the Thames.

Besides Torque, another of Macey’s projects was the very popular Warped @ The Spotted Dog, which used to blast bangin basslines down the High Rd. This weekly underground event ran for 5.5 years and was still going strong when The Spotted Dog joined the ever growing list of venues which are sadly no longer in operation in May 2007. Warped was for many a dj their 1st chance to play on a decent sized rig to a appreciative audience. It was a promotion that truely supported the development of up and coming DJ’s, providing a first hand taste of the ultra competitive DJ market.

Since the closure of The Spotted Dog, TORQUE has found what is the ideal summer venue in The Grand Junction Arms in Park Royal. The Outdoor Summer Sessions are gaining notoriety and the fact that we crank the 8K Torque Sound System under the starry skies til 3am but is still in Zone 2 makes these parties the best way to enjoy your summer nites.

Macey has also been a resident of some other long running promotions who for one reason or another are no longer in the promotions market. The first of these was Spin which was a monthly event held at the legendary venue, 414. Spin ran for over 5.5 years and finished in Jan 2011. Another of these promotions was Carnage where Macey also held a residency.

The TORQUE Sound System is seen powering parties all over London, and is well known for providing the sound rigs for the legendary Finger Squat Parties in West London for many a summer now.

Regular sets with Heat UK have lead to being invited to play on all their tours to Ibiza having been thier Ibizan resident 2003-2012.

Macey as a dj, is very animated behind the decks, has an energetic style and consistent enthusiasm, blended explosively with his banging uplifting tunes, you wont need to save energy for his set… You’ll find it on the dance floor.

On promoting: “I love the way the party evolves. From the idea, the promotion, setting it all up, watching it fill up, go off and finish with a bang!”

As a DJ, Macey describes his style as “uplifting and banging”, playing elements of hardtrance, NRG, techno and hard house.

“If you try and label the music it is difficult; individual perceptions always differ. This is the music I listen to and enjoy best. Day or night.”

Other than his residencies, he's had countless appearances at clubs all over the capital in the hard dance scene,
Macey’s DJ highlights include:
Hard Kandy, PHD, Krankin + BPM – Melbourne, Australia
Frantic – Sydney, Australia
Space – Ibiza
Eden – Ibiza
Es Paradis -- Ibiza
Bar Kanya - Ibiza
Electra Club – New England USA
Club Zyon - Amsterdam
Sound Track Festival - Porto Allegre, Brazil
Kazantip Festival - Ukraine
Sundays Drive - Ukraine

“When I'm on the decks I always play for the moment and the dancefloor. This is the way I think it should be done. It is also more fun for me, as I am always surprising myself too!”

As a DJ and promoter Macey sees his future travelling the world doing what he loves best. It is work in progress to him, meeting like-minded people across the globe and partying with them with dance music as the common factor.

“I love partying. It’s what I do. I go to parties, I play at parties, I throw parties.”

Not a bad philosophy after all…. Thumbs up
